The name is a reference to the restaurant’s original location in Buffalo, New York.
The restaurant was founded by a man named Tim McKercher. The story goes that he was looking for a name for his new chicken wing joint and wanted to pay homage to his hometown. The city of Buffalo is known for its wild, or feral, chicken population, so he decided to call the restaurant “Buffalo Wild Wings.”
Look up the history of buffalo wild wings, the name comes from the days the company was only selling chicken wings. Customers would refer to the restaurant as “buffalo wild wings” or “b-dubs” for short. The company had petitioned the uspto for the rights to the name, but lost the case. So, they decided to just change the name to buffalo wild wings.
