“Chimney” Howard Han is a firefighter paramedic with the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Station 118 and a regular on FOX’s 9-1-1. Kenneth Choi, a recurring character on 9-1-1, makes his debut in the first season’s first episode.
There are many theories as to why chimney gained its moniker. There isn’t a definitive solution. Even the show itself made no attempt to explain it.
Some believe that because there have been several cases of idiots, crooks, and pranksters becoming stuck in chimneys, and because chime is so small, he would be the most likely to enter tight areas for rescues.
That’s why people call chimney chimney on 911.
