LOL (Laugh Out Loud) is abbreviated as XD. It’s an emoticon with the letter X acting as the eyes and the letter D acting as the laughing lips. The eyes appear to be squinted in this image.
To make Toon Disney, which was formerly all-animation, more boy-centric in contrast to Disney Channel, which was growing increasingly girl-centric.
Rather of calling it after the Jetix brand, which had dominated Toon Disney’s roster to the point that Toon Disney was perceived as a stumbling block on Jetix rather than the other way around, they chose the initialism of a digital endeavor (Disney Xtreme Digital) as the name of the updated channel.
In the United States, the network has never been a ratings magnet, especially in compared to Disney Channel, which dominated kid-vid for over a decade until recently.
Many of Disney XD’s original animated shows are now available on Disney Channel, most notably the resurrection of Duck tale, which has increased ratings since its appearance on Disney Channel. Reruns of Gravity Falls, many of which had never shown on Disney Channel, also helped the channel’s ratings.
So, people call it Disney xd.
